May 24, 2011 – 7:30 pm “Ice Cream Night"
“Julia Ward Howe”
Tom Vince, historian and archivist at Hudson’s Western Reserve Academy, returns for his fifth visit. Julia Ward Howe, Author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, was revered for over fifty years as the Queen of America. Active during the Civil War she became a writer, poet, lecturer, women’s rights advocate and much more. Learn of the key events that shaped both her and her husband’s lives.
Following the program, concoct ice cream sundaes to your liking.
June 14, 2011 – “Field Trip “ Cleveland's Soldiers and Sailors Monument
Join us for this excursion to view this recently restored Civil War Monument on Public Square. We have passed it many times and said lets visit some day. This is that opportunity, with a guided tour of 30 to 45 minutes. Also we will visit historic Old Stone Church where so many prominent Clevelanders have worshiped. Meet at the Historical Museum’s parking lot at 11:30 am to car pool to the Van Aiken Rapid Station for the ride downtown.
August 21, 2011 – “ Old Time Craft Fair “

Visit the Historical Society grounds to observe, participate, and learn about crafts that were so necessary to function and survive in our early agrarian society. If you have a craft that would be of interest, (quilting, caning, weaving, bee keeping, fiddling, candlemaking, ), and you want to dress in period and/or be an en-actor, please contact us about participating. We hope this can become an annual event.
September 27, 2011 – 7:30 pm “ Cup Cake Night"
"Life In the Western Reserve"
Sandra Zikursh, using humor and facts, portrays a pioneer woman and her daily activities. Many hardships in a frontier setting had to be overcome using Yankee ingenuity. Good times and bad forged these women into the rocks of family life. Bring homemade cupcakes to share following the program.
October 22, 2011 – “ Meet Solon’s Ancestors"
"Time to be Announced"
This is a special program created to bring to life our early Solon settlers and founding families. Solon High School Drama Students will portray these Solon notables near their graves in Roselawn Cemetery on Solon Road. Learn of these early residents and their experiences and accomplishments. Further information will be in local newspapers prior to this event
December 4, 2011 – 2:00 – 5:00 pm “ Christmas Past Open House “
The Museum will be festively adorned with holiday ornamentation including a Christmas Tree with old time decorations. Docents, knowledgeable of early Solon, will be happy to tour visitors thru the Museum pointing out artifacts symbolic of Solon’s past. Hot wassail and sweet treats will speak to hospitality in bygone years.
January 24, 2012 – 7:30 pm “ Pie Night “ “ Early Auto History in the Western
Reserve “
Bill Takacs, from the Bainbridge Historical Society, will transport us from carriages of the 1800’s to the early autos produced in Cleveland up to the 1930s. Cleveland was at one time the largest producer of autos before Detroit’s expansion. View the Model “T’ and Baker Electric Assembly Lines.
Bring your favorite home baked pie to share following the program.

On the scheduled Tuesday meeting nights
the museum is staffed and open 1 hour prior to time shown.
Research and learn about Solon, the 2nd
Sunday of each month 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Closed if Sunday is a national holiday.
Phone if opening is questionable.
In addition to the program times and above,
arrangements may be made for museum visits by contacting either of the individuals below.
Tours for local groups are most welcome.
